The summer transfer window finally feels like it is slipping into gear with rumours of bids flying in left right and centre! One of the main affected clubs appears to be Brendan Rodgers Leicester City with the alleged capture of Ayoze Perez (£0.90) from Newcastle United for £30 Million but even more intriguing appears to be a potential outgoing from the King Power Stadium. Step forward England international Harry Maguire (£2.24) who appears to be at the centre of a £70 Million tug of war between both Manchester clubs.
The Three Lions centre half amassed 1300 media ranking points yesterday which saw him take home top spot and a £0.03 dividend per share, whilst increasing in price by £0.34 a share! What was driving these reports was that the Foxes had apparently been in receipt of a £70 Million bid to capture Maguire’s services from Old Trafford and no sooner had they received it then reports circulated that they had swiftly rejected said bid! Whilst across the City, Pep Guardiola is also keen to capture the services of the ball playing centre back. Maguire himself is apparently keen to move on and test himself at either Manchester club so the battle lines have been firmly drawn. With the bid being rejected by the Thai owners of Leicester City it looks set to be a story that captures the medias attention for some time to come.
Manchester City are reportedly very keen on capturing the services of Harry Maguire to bolster the ranks of homegrown players at the Etihad. With the potential of Fabian Delph being allowed to leave City this summer, the Cityzens could fall foul of the homegrown talent regulation in the Premier League which would mean that they need to reduce their squad size as punishment. Add in the recent departure of Vincent Kompany (£0.18), the form of Nicolas Otamendi (£0.46) and John Stones (£0.84) and City definitely appear to be in the market for a centre back. There were also links with Bournemouth centre back Nathan Ake (£0.91) last night in a transfer for a reported £40 Million, he too would meet the homegrown requirement thanks to his development at Chelsea. City were said to be very keen at a bid of £65 Million for Maguire so it will be interesting to see if they match United’s £70 Million bid or go even higher.
Cast your mind a year back to England’s glorious World Cup run in Russia and Maguire was attracting interest from all over the world with a certain Jose Mourinho said to be a fan. The Portuguese manager pushed to get Ed Woodward to sign Maguire but as we know with hiinsdight no centre backs were recruited and the rest is history! Flashforward a year and it is current incumbent of the managerial hot seat Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who is now trying to sign Maguire. Journalists and fans alike were particularly scathing of the centre backs at Old Trafford in the last few seasons, with the likes of Phil Jones (£0.29), Chris Smalling (£0.28) and Eric Bailly (£0.43) supposedly not up to the standard required. These kind of reports have had Manchester United in the running for almost each and every centre back worth there salt across Europe. There were numerous links with the soon to be Juventus player Matthijs De Ligt (£2.71) admiring glances at Kalidou Koulibaly (£1.43) from Napoli but they appear to have their hearts set on Maguire with yesterdays £70 Million bid. How quickly will United return with an increased offer?
The tug of war for Maguire’s services look set to be one of the transfer stories of the summer, will he be wearing blue or red come August?
