Despite there being no Premier League action due to the FA Cup, there were still plenty of talking points from the weekend’s action across the continent.

Barcelona’s defeat to Valencia means Real Madrid now sit top of La Liga with a three-point lead over their Catalan rivals, while Atletico Madrid currently sit outside the top four.

In Germany, a surprise defeat for RB Leipzig meant their lead at the summit of the Bundesliga was cut to a point following Bayern Munich’s win. Victories for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen means things have become congested at the top once more.

Serie A meanwhile saw the quite unique event of the top three all failing to win. Juventus remain top despite losing to Napoli, while Inter Milan and Lazio both drew; failing to capitalise on the Old Lady’s slip-up in the process.

Now here’s the activity on the Index today.

Neymar (£8.39) Closes in on All-Time High Price

While there were slip-ups from other sides chasing titles at the weekend, Paris Saint-Germain did not.

A 2-0 win over LOSC Lille on Sunday saw PSG go 10 points clear in Ligue 1, with Neymar grabbing both the goals. While his second was a penalty, his first was a stunner to score now in seven consecutive league games.

In the last 24 hours his price has gone up by 17p, as the 27-year-old closes in on his all-time high price of £8.50.

Steven Bergwijn (£2.21) Enjoys Significant Price Hike

With less than a week to go until the transfer window deadline, there are a number of surprising moves that could still happen.

One of those transfers could involve PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn, with the 22-year-old linked with a move to Tottenham over the weekend.

According to reports, the two parties held talks over the weekend in order to thrash out a deal before the deadline, as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad.

Bergwijn – who has risen by 51p in the last 24 hours – has five goals and 10 assists in the Eredivise this season, and would give Spurs a much-needed boost for the remainder of the season.

Erling Haaland (£5.48) Finds the Net Again for Dortmund

Starts for a new club don’t come much better than the one Erling Haaland is enjoying at the minute for Borussia Dortmund.

After scoring a hat-trick on debut, the 19-year-old netted a brace at the weekend against Koln, taking his tally to five goals in just 57 minutes of action for BVB.

Should his form continue, it would be hard to overlook the striker as someone who should be in your portfolio for both now and in the future were he to move to a bigger club.

Atalanta Knock Torino for Seven

The performance of the weekend undoubtedly went to Atalanta, who gave everyone a reminder as to why they’re Serie A’s top scoring club as they trashed Torino 7-0 in their own backyard.

Josip Ilicic (£1.79) netted a hat-trick, Luis Muriel (£0.84) scored a brace, while Robin Gosens (£1.32) and Duvan Zapata (£1.39) both scored one to help seal the emphatic win.

Atalanta have now scored 57 league goals this season, which is more than any other team. Prior to kick-off they were the only side in the league who had five players that had scored five league goals or more, making them one of Europe’s most exciting teams to watch at the moment.
