It was another busy day on the field and on the Football Index and traders once again witnessed some big movers and shakers across the board. It was an incredible day for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele (£8.38), with the Frenchman sky rocketing he now finds himself the newest member of the prestigious £8.00 club. This movement comes on the back of what has been an unbelievable week for Dembele, with gains of £2.75 in the last week alone. But why the huge movement now?
Having managed just 3 goals in 17 La Liga matches last year, it is fair to say that Dembele struggled to prove his £100million price tag last year. However, after what was a difficult first year in Barcelona, Dembele now appears to be finally cementing his place in the Barcelona first team. His influence on the pitch is becoming more and more pivotal with every passing game and this again showed yesterday. The youngster scored another goal last night during Barcelona’s 3-1 victory over Leganes, with both Luis Suarez (£2.98) and Leo Messi (£16.12) also bagged a goal each to finish off the tie! Despite picking up what looks like a possible sprained ankle, Dembele’s performance was a major positive and his impressive performances are continuing to catch the eye.

It has certainly been a successful season so far for Dembele, having managed 13 goals and 5 assists in all competitions. Considering the fact that there had been serious rumours of a move for Dembele over the summer, it looks as though he is finally stepping up and staking a serious claim to the first team. Barcelona are always going to be in the mix for the latter stages of the Champions League; as such Dembele will definitely have plenty more opportunities to showcase his talent on the biggest stage. When you couple Dembele’s attacking prowess with the fact that he is still just 21 years of age, its little wonder that traders are seeing the long-term benefits of investing in Dembele.
Dembele’s rise to prominence is in stark contrast to the recent struggles that fellow teammate Philipe Coutinho (£4.56) has endured. Coutinho hasn’t quite managed to establish himself as a first team starter under Ernesto Valverde and this is reflected in the fact that he has had to make do with coming off the bench in 7 of his 18 appearances in La Liga so far this season. There have even been outlandish rumours that Countinho could make a mega-money return to the Premier League, with Man United being touted as a potential destination. It would be very surprising to see Coutinho move, considering he’s barely been at the club for a year, but there is no smoke without fire and these rumours point to a certain level of dissatisfaction for the Brazilian. As such, this may well be one to keep a close eye on, as there will surely be some Media speculation surrounding Coutinho regardless of whether he moves or not!
With Dembele continue to delight fans and traders alike, it will be interesting to see whether he can maintain the form he’s displayed so far this season. However, the early signs are very positive indeed.
