We may only be two weeks into the Premier League, but things are already spicing up quite nicely.
Yesterday many Tottenham fans would have been forgiven for feeling confident going up against a Chelsea team that had stuttered in their first game of the season. But things started off badly for Spurs, as Marcos Alonso (£1.09) got an early goal to give Chelsea the lead. We saw on Saturday how crucial a goal can be for defensive players when looking at the Performance Buzz and things got even better for Alonso, as he also grabbed the winning goal late on!
Alonso’s second goal followed a Michy Batshuayi (£1.14) own goal and poor Batshuayi saw a bit of a drop in price (18p to be precise!) as a result. It was a similar story for Alvaro Morata (£3.61). The Spaniard was unable to make an impact during Chelsea’s win and he also saw a slight dip in price; falling by 27p over 24 hours. Having smashed in a brace, it was unsurprisingly to see Alonso run away with the defensive Performance Buzz dividends with a score of 216. Although he may well have won the defensive performance buzz, his brace still wasn’t enough to knock Phillipe Coutinho (£3.29) off the media buzz perch, as he notched up yet another win!
This result will have done little to allay fears that Spurs are going to struggle away from White Heart Lane. With building work continuing on their new stadium, Tottenham’s home matches this season will be played at Wembley. Their first ‘home’ game may well have been against one of the tougher teams, but perhaps the rest of the Prem will believe they are capable of a result when they pay Spurs a visit this season.
Meanwhile Huddersfield continued their own flying start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle. Two losses on the bounce will not have been the start Newcastle had in mind, but there’s still a long way to go!
Tonight sees Man City take on a new look Everton side in a what should be a great game. Watch out for Kevin de Bruyne (£2.35) and David Silva (£1.43) two players who have been on upward curves recently. It seems as though midfielders who are capable of pulling the strings in the middle are looking good in the new buzz, so it’s no surprise that traders are investing in Man City’s mercurial pair of midfielders. Both players have a high pass rate and are capable of goals and assists, so let’s wait and see how they fare. In addition to this, we’ve got the added excitement of hopefully seeing a combination of Sergio Aguero (£3.02) and Gabriel Jesus (£4.24) up top for Man City! No matter how hard they try Man City players have traditionally struggled to make a mark in the media buzz, but perhaps the new performance buzz will finally give them a chance to standout; traders will no doubt be looking forward to seeing if this is the case!
